Lavrov phoned Meredov. February 22 they will meet in person in Moscow

On February 17 , Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov .

The parties discussed preparations for the 6th Caspian Summit, which will be held this year in Turkmenistan, as well as current areas of bilateral cooperation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement .

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also reported on the Summit and added that "during the conversation, the ministers discussed key issues of Turkmen-Russian cooperation."

In September last year, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a Decree on the establishment of an organizing committee to hold the Summit at a high level. It was scheduled to take place in October. During a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 7, Berdymukhammedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to host the Summit in person despite the pandemic. “If necessary, Turkmenistan is ready to receive a representative of Russia to exchange views on the organization of the Summit, ” the president said .

On February 22, Sergei Lavrov will personally meet with Rashid Meredov, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on February 16 , RIA Novosti reports .

“On February 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Mr. Meredov. He will pay a working visit to our country . The parties plan to discuss the key topics of Russian-Turkmenistan cooperation, topical issues of the regional international agenda, as well as the interaction of the two countries in multilateral formats - these are the CIS, the UN, the OSCE and, of course, the Caspian Five," Zakharova said.
