Mass Food Poisoning from Doner in Nakhchivan Under Investigation

Nakhchivan: An investigation has been launched to determine the causes behind a mass food poisoning incident that affected 17 individuals in Nakhchivan city. The incident occurred at "Kassap Doner," a popular eatery on Heydar Aliyev Avenue, prompting swift action from local authorities.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Head of the Food Chain Control Department at the Food Safety Agency of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Orkhan Orujov, stated that immediate measures were taken following reports of the mass poisoning. The agency restricted operations at the doner shop, collected samples, and submitted them to the Nakhchivan Food Safety Institute's laboratory for analysis. Investigations are ongoing, and detailed findings will be shared with the public once available.

Orujov indicated that the poisoning could be linked to seasonal factors and improper storage and usage of food products. Samples from various stages of the food chain, including raw doner storage and processing, as well as sauces and condiments, were analyzed to ensure compliance with existing temperature and hygiene regulations.

Reports from the Nakhchivan Infectious Diseases Center Public Hospital confirmed that 17 people suffered food poisoning after consuming doner at the establishment. Among those affected were nine minors. Dr. Nazmin Allahverdiyeva, an infectious disease specialist, revealed that patients were admitted in moderate to severe conditions on June 9, but all have since recovered and been discharged. The affected individuals included members from several families, and it is suspected that the actual number of cases may be higher as some sought medical help through emergency services.

This incident marks the second occurrence of mass food poisoning linked to doner in Nakhchivan in the last 20 days, following a similar case on May 21 involving seven individuals. The ongoing investigation aims to prevent further incidents and ensure food safety for the community.
