Around 700 residents of Turkmen capital gathered in Yoga and Traditional Medicine Centre located in Bagtiyarlyk Sport Complex on occasion of the International Yoga Day observed on June 21. The Embassy of India and the Ministry of Public Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan are the organizers of the event.
Our country just like the rest of the world observes this day from 2015. The resolution of institution of the International Yoga Day proposed by India was approved by 175 states, the members of the UN General Assembly on June 12, 2014. In this regard, the World Health Organization urged the governments of member states to assist their citizens to come over insufficient physical activity, which is in the first ten list of death causes and the risk factor of such diseases as cardiovascular disorders, cancer and diabetes.
However, the yoga is more than physical activity; this is the way to achieve the harmony with oneself, the world around and the nature. Number of people going in for yoga grows with every year including in Turkmenistan as well.
It is worth mentioning that yoga therapy is studied at two faculties of the State Medical University as a subject of rehabilitation and alternative medicine department and it is applied in medical practice in Medical and Consulting Centre.
Participants of mass training made complex of exercises in the gym and at the open ground of Bagtiyarlyk Sport Complex. Representatives of different age categories and professions were among active supporters of yoga. Participants of the special contest on best works dedicated to the role of yoga in individual life were awarded with prizes and valuable gifts. The celebration was finalized by demonstration performance.
Giving his comments of the events, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India Thatimapul Wenkata Nagendra Prasad mentioned that he is pleased with the popularity of yoga in Turkmenistan.
There is 80-years old woman doing the training in the centre who wrote in her work that she almost could not walk because of her disease but today she is full of life, energy and has an active lifestyle.
The idea of establishment of Yoga and Traditional Medicine Centre in Ashgabat was supported by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who thinks that yoga is the philosophy for health. It is only owing to the support of the Head of the State we implemented what we planned, - Mr Prasad highlighted.
The yoga is efficient in cure of many diseases. The students of medical university learn it from the lectures given by the specialists of the centre weekly. Favourable influence of yoga on immune and nervous system are experienced by the doctors and patients of Medical and Consulting Centre. Specialization of current yoga instructor at the Centre is protection and release of the stress. It is very important for office workers. Besides, we hope that the yoga will find its supporters not only in Ashgabat but in the velayats as well, - the Ambassador of India mentioned in the conversation.
