Meeting of Commission on Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan held

The 10th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan was held in Cholpon-Ata city, Issyk-Kul region. Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov and the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov. Issues of cooperation in the trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian spheres were discussed.

Akylbek Japarov noted that more than 50 mutual visits took place at different levels in the first half of 2023. This demonstrates a positive growth of bilateral relations.

«The past mutual visits of the heads of our states have given a strong impetus and raised the level of bilateral relations to comprehensive strategic partnership. And now we are faced with the task of implementation of all the agreements reached in a timely and high-quality manner,» Akylbek Japarov said.

He reminded of a positive trend in trade and economic relations between the countries. The volume of mutual trade is steadily growing from year to year. Thus, for five months of 2023, the volume of trade increased by 13.3 percent, reaching $215.8 million.

Akylbek Japarov believes that the business sector, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Business Council play an important role in deepening trade relations.

«The Trade Mission of Kyrgyzstan has already started its activities in Uzbekistan. A capsule has been laid for the construction of one of the important facilities for organizing the assembly production of automotive and commercial vehicles,» the head of the Cabinet added.

It was noted that Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have a positive experience of bilateral cooperation in the water-energy, transport and communication spheres. The meeting participants noted the need to build up cultural, humanitarian, scientific and educational ties. Issues of upcoming joint cultural events were discussed. In particular, within the framework of the Days of Culture of Kyrgyzstan in Uzbekistan in November, it is planned to widely celebrate the 95th anniversary of the outstanding writer Chingiz Aitmatov.

A corresponding protocol was signed following the 10 meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.
