Memorial Day celebrated in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan commemorates Memorial Day for soldiers who fell on the battlefields and for the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the mourning events. On the occasion of the mournful date, state flags were lowered throughout the country, memorial services and sadaka (memorial dinners) were held everywhere.

The main memorial day events were held at the Halk hakydasy (People's Memory) memorial complex in Ashgabat. The head of state, leaders of the Mejlis (parliament), government, military and law enforcement agencies, public organizations, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, residents and guests of Ashgabat laid flowers at the memorial.

Then, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and participants in the mourning ceremony took part in the memorial meal. After that, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and members of the government arrived at the monument to the first President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov in the center of Ashgabat and laid a wreath. Noting the activities of Niyazov to protect the sovereignty of the country, the recognition of Turkmenistan on the world stage, the head of state stressed that it should not be forgotten.
