Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan named the number of people who received Turkmen citizenship

On September 24, in the building of the State Migration Service, a ceremony of presenting passports to persons accepted into the citizenship of Turkmenistan was held, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports .

In accordance with the decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, 2,657 people became citizens of Turkmenistan, and another 406 people received a residence permit.

The news also reports that since 2011, 14,980 people have received Turkmen citizenship .

The news about the delivery of passports was also published by the state information agency TDH , which again did not indicate the number of people who received passports, limiting itself to the wording “a group of persons”.

On September 19, the publication released the news about the signing of the corresponding Decree and for the first time did not indicate the data on the number of persons accepted for citizenship.

Last fall, The Chronicle of Turkmenistan discovered that at a meeting with representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Migration Service had doubled the number of persons granted Turkmen citizenship.

Representatives of the department said that since 2011, about 23 thousand stateless persons have been admitted to the citizenship of Turkmenistan , although, according to the TDH data published in different years, it turned out that 9,743 people received Turkmen citizenship from 2011 to 2019. The same figure was indicated by the UNHCR.

If to this (9,743) figure we add 2,580 people adopted in 2020 in honor of the Day of Neutrality and 2,657 adopted in this year, then we will just get 14,980 people.
