Monument to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s horse to be erected in Turkmenistan

A monument with a statue of the "famous horse Akhan" will be built in Akhal velayat, the state information agency TDH reported on May 22 .

The corresponding Decree was signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov "to increase the glory of the Akhal-Teke horses - the national pride of the people."

The document prescribed to begin construction of the monument in May and finish in December.

The state media started writing about the horse named Akhan in 2017, when a rider on Akhan lit a torch on September 17 at the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. In 2018, the horse ran a distance of 10 meters on its hind legs in 4.19 seconds and updated the world record in this category.

On March 22, 2021, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was informed of the birth of Akhan's first foal, which was seized personally by the President. In honor of the 140th anniversary of the capital, the foal was named Ashgabat. In July 2021, the head of state opened the building of the White Yurt in Balkanabat, where a concert was held for him, at which the Galkynys riders group, which the president presented Akhan, performed.
