In Turkmenistan, in accordance with the principles of mercy and humanism, as well as on the occasion of the sacred Night of Predestination (Gadir gidzhesi) in the month of Ramadan, 514 convicts were pardoned. The corresponding decree on pardon was signed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a government meeting.
Opening the meeting, the head of state noted that, according to tradition, on the eve of the blessed Night of Predestination, an action is being held to pardon convicts who have repented of their deeds and are ready to start a new life. The Turkmen leader stressed that, following the traditions of mercy and humanism, he signs a decree on pardoning 514 citizens, which frees them from further serving the main punishment in the form of imprisonment.
The President instructed the Minister of Defense, Secretary of the State Security Council Begench Gundogdyev, together with the heads of law enforcement agencies, to take measures so that the pardoned citizens come to their homes and families as soon as possible. The heads of administrations of regions, districts and cities of the country were also instructed to provide work for pardoned persons.
“The ongoing pardon actions give those who stumbled an opportunity to correct themselves and atone for their guilt through conscientious work, to take an active part in the development of the Motherland,” President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
The night of predestination this year will be celebrated by Muslims on the night of April 27th to 28th.
