“The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been operating in Azerbaijan since 1992. Neither during the 30-year conflict, nor in the post-war reality, have we witnessed the ICRC serious and fruitful operation in relation with Azerbaijan. On the contrary, the ICRC, which undertook to be guided by fundamental principles such as "neutrality", "impartiality", and "unity" acted as a single party with Armenia”, Azerbaijani MP Bahruz Maharramov told APA.
Bahruz Maharramov said that during the past period, there are facts about the transfer of intelligence information to Armenia during the war and post-conflict military operations through the institution, and support to Armenian militants during the Patriotic War under the name of humanitarian mission."Furthermore, a short time ago, within the framework of the border control measures of the Azerbaijan State Border Service, facts have been revealed that the Red Cross is a participant in smuggling activities at the Lachin border checkpoint, as well as organizing the case of evasion of the responsibility of internationally wanted military criminals.
The ICRC has recently been showing open provocation and hostility towards Azerbaijan by acting as one of the important participants in the "humanitarian disaster" show and the humanitarian needs of the Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region. Although the ICRC should not be a tool for some political shows, but should act in the direction of eliminating possible humanitarian difficulties by any safe and non-violent methods and means, in the present case, by preferring the shorter and safer Khankandi-Aghdam road, the Armenian residents should also cooperate with the relevant structures of Azerbaijan. should contribute to reducing tension by encouraging their direct contact.
But it seems that the ICRC is concerned about the establishment of mutual trust and thus the achievement of final peace in the region. It seems that the ICRC is doing more harm than good in the region, and in this regard it would be right to focus on the Red Crescent Society. With the Statement of its Management Board dated August 21, 2023, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society declares that it has mobilized all its potential as a national society for the implementation of this humanitarian mission and that it can cope with this mission.
The MP noted that there is no reason to doubt that the Red Crescent, which has been operating with dignity for more than 100 years, will carry out the necessary humanitarian mission for all needy people, regardless of their religious belief, nationality, race, or political views: " In this regard, a decision should be made as soon as possible to replace the "activity" of the ICRC, which is engaged in subversive activities in the region, with the Red Crescent Society.”
