The renowned human rights activist from Turkmenistan Natalya Shabunts has been nominated for Front Line Defenders award for human rights defenders at risk.
N. Shabunts has been involved in human rights activities in Turkmenistan for many years. She helps residents to defend their rights, publishes petitions and statements on web resources and collaborates with many major international and domestic human rights organizations.
She is the only human rights defender in Turkmenistan who does not conceal her occupation and her name from the authorities. On a regular basis she is pressured by the special services, threatened and abused, but Natalya Shabunts continues her work.
We are happy for Natalya, our colleague and a very good friend, and wish that she wins the award.
