BAKU: Negotiations on climate finance between the European Union and China are ongoing, with an agreement expected soon, according to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. Speaking at a press conference in Baku during the COP29 summit, Baerbock emphasized the importance of continuing discussions on the new collective quantified target. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baerbock highlighted Germany's commitment to the Loss and Damage Fund, acknowledging their responsibility in its financial provisions. She urged other countries to share this responsibility by participating in globally accepted mitigation measures. "China, along with other countries, must play an important role and actively participate," she said. Baerbock refrained from providing specifics on the negotiations, noting the diversity of opinions regarding financial contributions. She pointed out that some countries are hesitant to fund their share of the finance. Intensive negotiations are underway between the EU, China, and other natio ns, with only a few hours remaining to finalize an agreement. Baerbock called for intensified efforts and negotiations to reach a resolution.
