Negotiations between Turkmenistan and Iran: expansion of trade and supply of Iranian building materials

On June 15, a meeting of the heads of Turkmenistan and Iran took place in Tehran . At the same time, negotiations were held between other members of the Turkmen delegation and their Iranian counterparts.

A day earlier, on June 14, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Iran Hossein Amir Abdulakhyan discussed issues of cooperation in maintaining stability and security in the region, as well as the ecology of the Caspian Sea.

According to the Tansim news agency, the Iranian Foreign Minister outlined three key areas of cooperation between the foreign ministries this year: the meeting of the 17th Joint Economic Commission, the 15th meeting of the Joint Commission on Consular and Border Affairs, as well as the meeting of members of foreign ministries within the Joint Committee consultations.

Meredov, in turn, noted the importance of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran, as well as cooperation of all five Caspian states to reach agreements at the upcoming VI Caspian Summit , which will be held in Turkmenistan.

On June 15, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan for Trade Batyr Atdaev met with Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin .

The parties noted the need to create a working group to develop a one-year roadmap to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations.

To facilitate trade relations, an agreement was reached to establish a working group to strengthen bilateral economic ties.

The representative of the Iranian side spoke about the creation of shopping centers in 16 countries, adding that these shopping centers were established abroad in order to expand trade and economic ties.

Atdaev noted that the main trade cooperation between the countries falls on the construction sector, in particular, on the export of building materials from Iran to Turkmenistan, and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in this area.

It should be noted that earlier, ex-president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov repeatedly demanded , within the framework of the import substitution program, to expand the production of domestic building materials and reduce their purchases abroad. Previously, the production of domestic building materials was led by the incumbent President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who headed the relevant ministry at that time.

Also on June 14, the heads of the Ministries of Labor and Social Protection of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on expanding cooperation in the areas of social protection and the provision of technical and vocational training services, the Mehr news agency reported .

Iranian Acting Minister of Labor Mohammad-Hadi Zahedivafa noted that the Iranian Ministry of Labor owns a large number of economic enterprises operating in the field of railway and maritime transport, and can create a suitable ground for expanding bilateral cooperation in these areas.

He also added that the countries have great potential to more than double the volume of trade.
