Lawmakers of the ruling Saenuri Party who are critical of the bloc's current leadership have agreed to hold an emergency meeting this weekend to discuss measures to deal with the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
Representative Hwang Young-chul said that about 20 nonmainstream lawmakers on Wednesday decided to hold a meeting with party members and mayors and governors affiliated with the party on Sunday.
The lawmakers also decided to seek a new path for the party including dissolving and re-creating the party, while repeating calls for the current leadership's immediate resignation.
Hwang told a news briefing that many of the lawmakers suggested that they will have to dismantle the party to reflect on itself and take responsibility for the scandal as the governing bloc.
