As of 1 August, Azerbaijan's economy employed 1,706,500 people, which is down by 19,000 or 1.1% from early July. This is reported by the State Statistics Committee without disclosing the reason for this negative phenomenon of the labour market. The number of employees under employment contracts at the beginning of August dropped to 14-months ago: by June 1, 2022, there were 1 million 706.000 people working under employment contracts in Azerbaijan. According to the SSC, in July this year, the number of employees in state structures droppedd by 2.500, in private organisations - by 16.500 people. It has to be noted that the highest index of employment (1 million 736.300 people) in the economy of Azerbaijan under labour contracts was recorded in early April this year. According to official calculations, in January-July this year, an average monthly nominal salary (before deduction of income tax, various social contributions, etc.) in Azerbaijan was 925.3 manats ($544.3). This is 11.3 per cent more than the average for the first seven months of 2022.
