Number of registered candidates for presidency reached nine

The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda had registered another five candidates for the post of President of Turkmenistan. They were nominated by initiative groups of citizens. Thus, the number of nominees for presidential elections, scheduled for 12 February 2017, had reached nine.

To date, the list of registered candidates includes Jumanazar Annayev, deputy governor of Mary province; Ramazan Durdyyev, Director of Seydi oil refinery, member of Mejlis; Meretdurdy Gurbanov, deputy governor of Dashoguz province; Serdar Jelilov, head of the main directorate of economy and development of Ahal province; Suleymannepes Nurnepesov, Director General of the Production Association Garabogazsulfat of the State Concern Turkmenhimiya". The candidates had been provided with the corresponding certificates.

Addressing at the meeting, candidates for the highest office, expressed thankfulness to their voters for the appreciation and trust to represent them at the elections.

Upon completion of the registration stage, taking place nowadays as a part of preparations for upcoming elections, canvassing campaign will start, envisaging TV appearances and meetings with electorate. All candidates enjoy equal rights and chances to present their proposals. This will allow the electorate, appraising each candidate's pre-election program, to elect the most worthy.

Both national observers and specially invited representatives of various international organizations will monitor the progress of pre-election process.
