The chiefs of three opposition parties will meet this week to discuss how to deal with the widening scandal involving President Park Geun-hye and her longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil.
Floor Leader Park Jie-won of the minor opposition People's Party told reporters on Monday that the opposition leaders will hold talks at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae of the main opposition Democratic Party confirmed that she will attend, saying that senior social leaders have been calling on them to swiftly meet and cope with the crisis.
Earlier in the day, the floor leaders of the three parties agreed to seek an independent counsel to probe the scandal as well as a parliamentary inspection.
The chiefs are expected to discuss their stance on Prime Minister nominee Kim Byong-joon, preconditions for a meeting between President Park and rival party leaders, and how to make the president stand aside from state affairs.
