Baku: The Organizing Committee for the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) convened its inaugural meeting in Baku. Samir Nuriyev, Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and Committee Chairman, led the session, emphasizing the significance of urban development under President Ilham Aliyev's policies. Nuriyev highlighted that the development of sustainable living conditions and residents' well-being is a top priority, as outlined in the 'Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development.' He pointed out the extensive reconstruction efforts being undertaken in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, aligning with advanced urban planning standards.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Chairman noted the global trend of accelerated urbanization in the 21st century. He mentioned that Azerbaijan's government has been recognized internationally for its reforms and large-scale urban planning projects. The decision to host the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku in 2026, themed 'Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities,' signifies Azerbaijan's growing international stature and the trust placed in the country. This forum is considered a crucial global event in urban development, held under the United Nations' auspices.
Committee members, including Anar Guliyev, Eldar Azizov, and Elbay Gasimzade, delivered reports on various agenda items during the meeting. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee assigned tasks to ensure the successful organization and execution of WUF13. These tasks include overseeing the national coordinator and the WUF13 operational company, preparing the Action Plan for the forum, managing the Organizing Committee Secretariat, and addressing other relevant matters.
