The OSCE Center in Ashgabat held a seminar entitled Models of financing television in the 21st century. The meeting was attended by representatives of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography, the Mejlis (Parliament), the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ombudsman's Office, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy and a number of other departments.
During the seminar, international experts from the UK and Ukraine spoke about the main principles of public television and traditional models of financing state, commercial and public television. In particular, the meeting participants discussed issues such as a subscription system, annual contributions from television viewers, microfinance, a tax on digital services and hybrid financing models.
In her address to the seminar participants, the head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, Ambassador Natalia Drozd, said: The OSCE participating States are committed to using modern means of communication to ensure freer and wider dissemination of information.
