Parliament of Turkmenistan adopts draft laws on environmental audit and innovation

The fifth meeting of the Mejlis (Parliament) of the sixth convocation was held, which adopted a number of new laws and regulatory acts developed in accordance with the comprehensive program of modernization of the legislative and legal framework of the country.

A parliamentary bill on environmental audit was submitted to parliamentarians for consideration. The draft law defines the legal and organizational basis for conducting an environmental audit and provides for improving the environmental soundness and effectiveness of economic entities. Environmental audit is an independent, comprehensive, documented assessment of compliance by enterprises, organizations, institutions with the requirements of the legislation of Turkmenistan in the field of environmental protection and the requirements of international environmental standards. During the discussion of the draft law, it was noted that, given the country's ongoing construction of numerous facilities for various purposes, an audit is important for the analysis and assessment of the environmental impacts of projects at the stage of their preparation.

Deputies reviewed the draft law On Rationalization Activities. The new law is aimed at creating organizational, legal and economic conditions for the activities of authors of inventions, stimulating scientific and technical creativity.

At the parliamentary session, draft laws on introducing changes and amendments to various legislative acts of Turkmenistan were considered. The deputies also considered draft resolutions On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the elimination of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and property and On the assignment of the Turkmen National Conservatory and Myrat Orazgulyyevich Garryev to Mai Kuliyev to the Turkmen State Medical University.

All drafts of legislative and legal acts submitted for consideration by the next meeting of the Mejlis were unanimously approved and adopted. Now the bills will be sent for signature to the President of Turkmenistan, after which they will acquire legal force.
