Participants of the briefing in Riyadh get acquainted with Turkmenistan’s foreign-policy achievements

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Turkmenistan organized a briefing dedicated to the achievements of our country in the foreign-policy sphere, and the work of the Turkmen diplomacy on the implementation of the constructive initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the aim to enhance the multi-format international cooperation, stability and sustainable development.

The briefing brought together the representatives of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, the Center for Research and International Knowledge, as well as the diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited in Riyadh, the Humanitarian Association of Turkmens of the World, Turkmen diaspora residing in Saudi Arabia, public organisations and mass media.

Those speaking during the meeting noted that Turkmenistan, pursuing the policy of neutrality and open doors, successfully implemented the ambitious projects in the sphere of sustainable energy and transport, ecology, health care and sports. It was noted that the V Asian Indoor and Martial Sports Games, held in Turkmenistan at the high organizational level, had symbolized the steady development of the country and Turkmen society and had become an important step towards making the peoples in the region and the world closer to each other.

Cooperating with large international structures, and the UN in particular, Turkmenistan has achieved significant success in solving the issues of the regional integration. Our country put forward a number of initiatives that were widely supported by the international community. Among them are the establishment of the modern architecture of the energy security as an important factor to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It was underlined that the Resolution Strengthening the links between all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals submitted by Turkmenistan was unanimously adopted during the 74th meeting of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in December, 2017.

It was emphasized that the UN-Turkmenistan dialogue successfully developed, due to the work of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in particular. It was also emphasized that the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN and its specialized structures, first of all the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) had provided a platform for the implementation of the country's initiatives on the establishment of thee East-West and North-South transport corridors and their integration into the world transport infrastructure.

In this regard, the attention of the meeting participants was focused on the election of Turkmenistan as a member of the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe for 2019-2020.

The world community's support to the initiatives put forward by our country with the aim to ensure water and energy safety, solve problems in Afghanistan, provide assistance to refugees and support the efforts on the implementation of the UN global counterterrorism strategy serve as a bright example of the positive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN.

The briefing participants got acquainted with the outcomes of the Seventh Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII). Particular attention was paid to the construction of the Afghan section of the TAPI gas pipeline, laying the electricity transmission lines and fibre-optic communication lines along the route Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan and putting the Serhetabat-Turgundi railway into operation.

The thematic informative leaflets were handed over to the briefing participants in conclusion of the meeting.
