The National Police Agency(NPA) said it retrieved four-thousand-542 stolen cultural artifacts during a nationwide crackdown between July and October.
The police on Tuesday announced the result of its four-month campaign, during which 48 arrests were made on suspicions of stealing cultural assets or facilitating illicit transactions of the items.
The retrieved items also include the first edition of the Korean historical medical book, Donguibogam, and the "Gilt-bronze Seated Amitabha Buddha."
The national police vowed to cooperate with experts in academia and the religious sector to better protect cultural assets.
