Pre-trial detention facility-1 to be taken out of Bishkek next year – president

Pre-trial detention facility-1 will be taken out of Bishkek next year, President Sadyr Japarov vowed. A micro-district will appear in its place, he said. Pre-trial detention facility-1 commonly called SIZO-1 is the largest and oldest facility of this kind in Kyrgyzstan. Today more than 1,200 people are kept in the center waiting for their trial or waiting to be transported to penal colonies. Initially, it was a prison, the first prisoners were delivered from Sochi in 1941. The facility's second block was built in 1965.
