Cotton harvest campaign starts in Ahal, Lebap and Mary Velayats on August 30 and in Dashoguz Velayat on September 6 respectively. Cotton harvest equipment as well as vehicles for transporting the yield to reception facilities have been prepared to the beginning of this campaign. Hundreds of cotton harvesters and four-wheel tractors made in Belarus with trailers, thousands of trucks and trolleys for transporting of raw cotton were lined up. The rest of transportation vehicles was hired on the agreement basis with automobile companies and private owners. 24/7 service of the equipment is organized at the sites for non-stop work of the cotton harvest conveyor as well as all conditions for productive work and proper recreation of the farmers have been arranged.
The State order for production of cotton is 1 million 50 thousand tons. Planning sessions, scientific and production seminars on improvement of agricultural works and solution of topical issues of the coming campaign have been held prior to the coming season in cotton growing enterprises. Cotton reception facilities as well as service equipment were made ready for current cotton harvest campaign.
The process of cotton growing is regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management and its structures controls the provision of the farmers with cotton harvest equipment, seeding material, mineral fertilizers, transportation of raw material, irrigation and protection of the fields from excessive watering. Raw material and its derivatives arrive in 38 cotton gin facilities of the country, cotton-spinning factories and textile complexes as well as oil-producing plants.
As it was explained in production department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, the branded cotton is divided into super elite, elite and some other categories, with technical status to the lowest grade of the cotton. Top brand raw cotton delivered to the facilities is considered to be like this until October 10; everything what is delivered after is a technical one. Hence, the cotton producers try not to delay the harvesting getting sizebale income for efficient cultivation of elite fine-fibre breeds without mixtures. The zoning is made based on the monitoring of yield productivity and resistance to cotton diseases.
Different soil and climate conditions of our country have stipulated the centuries-old traditions of growing agricultural crops in different regions and agricultural zones of Turkmenistan. There are old irrigated zones where the farming is carried out for more than hundred years. As a rule, the soil there is more developed and adjusted for agriculture as well as land reclamation conditions are better. These are the valleys of Murgab and Amudarya. There are irrigated lands, which were developed recently, some few decades, where the process of improvement of soils is still continued. New fields are being developed around Altyn Asyr Turkmen Lake, which is still under construction. Mary and Ahal Velayats specialize in growing of fine-fibre cotton.
Special care is taken to support of the brand purity of cotton. Every velayat has 7 8 farms, which deal with seeding and selection. Scientific and production work for crossbreeding and generation of new brands is carried out on experimental grounds of scientific and research institutes of agriculture of the country. Each region grows zoned brands, which demonstrate the best results in local soil and climate conditions.
