President calls for digital teaching and urges teachers to buy laptops

An article published in the newspaper Neitralny Turkmenistan of 4 September entitled It is such an important task to be eager to, aspire to and know how to learn! says that Turkmen schools should introduce state-of-the-art technologies � innovative tools meeting the present-day reality and that the teaching staff should be conversant with today's requirements.

On 9 August, speaking about the development of educational establishments, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov emphasized that schools must be equipped in line with the latest international standards since educational multimedia equipment is developing very fast and teaching methods based on digital technologies are constantly updated. Therefore Turkmenistan should look to the future and be proactive to make sure children attend schools of the new epoch which keep up with its spirit and dynamics.

For the time being, as Radio Azatlyk reported on 20 August, secondary school teachers in Dashoguze are obliged to buy laptops and learn to use them on their own. They were supposed to have done it by 1 September and signed relevant acknowledgements.

Teachers say that they have no money for self-improvement or to purchase a personal computer since their income is only enough to provide for their families.

It is reported that the average monthly salary of teachers in Dashoguz velayat is 800�1100 manats whereas the price for laptops ranges from 8 to 15 thousand manats.
