President instructs to build more greenhouses and reduce vegetable imports

At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on November 5, Deputy Prime Minister Esenmyrat Orazgeldiev , who oversees the agro- industrial complex, reported on the work of the industry, preparations for planting trees on November 6 and the Harvest Festival (celebrated on the second Sunday of November), the state information agency TDH reported .

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered an organized environmental campaign. As the "Chronicle of Turkmenistan" reported the day before , workers of the Ashgabat green farm dug holes in advance for planting seedlings by officials.

The head of state also ordered to speed up work on the implementation of environmental projects in the Karakum Desert (which ones, TDH does not specify), and to consider the possibility of building new greenhouses to provide the population with sufficient quantities of vegetables.

In this regard, Orazgeldiev and Deputy Prime Minister for Trade Chary Gylydzhov were instructed to study issues related to the production of import-substituting vegetable products, because for this, Turkmenistan "has all the necessary conditions."

The head of Turkmenistan also raised the issue of accelerating the allocation of land plots. The TDH does not specify which ones and to whom. According to the President, in order to increase the volume of vegetables and potatoes grown, it is necessary to expand the cultivated areas, increase the production of these products and reduce their imports.

“It is necessary to fully provide the domestic market with domestic products and increase the livestock population,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

The day before, on November 4, the president held a separate working meeting on the development of a shopping complex, at which he instructed to intensify the construction of enterprises for the production of import-substituting products and stop the import of those goods from abroad that Turkmenistan can produce itself.
