President of Azerbaijan Highlights Impediments to Peace Due to Armenia’s Armament.

Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has expressed concerns over Armenia's rapid armament, identifying it as a significant barrier to achieving lasting peace between the two nations. In a letter addressed to participants of the Second International Conference on 'The Right to Return: Advancing Justice for Azerbaijanis Expelled from Armenia,' Aliyev underscored deep-rooted issues contributing to the tensions. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Aliyev pointed out that the animosity towards Azerbaijan in Armenian society, claims of a 'greater Armenia,' and Armenia's territorial claims against Azerbaijan, entrenched in its constitution, further complicate the peace process. He emphasized that these factors, coupled with Armenia's military buildup, obstruct efforts to establish enduring peace. Aliyev also criticized Armenia's portrayal of the Western Azerbaijan Community's activities, which aim to ensure a peaceful return of displaced Azerbaijanis to their ancestral lands, as a threat to its territorial integrity. He argued that this misrepresentation distorts the humanitarian nature of the community's mission and denies the right of return recognized by international law.
