President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in the Turkmen capital.
Welcoming the Turkmen leader, the guest expressed sincere appreciation for the active support in the development of constructive cooperation in the CIS space that meets the goals of general well-being. At the same time, Turkmenistan's active position and proactive approach to strengthening economic and humanitarian ties within the Commonwealth was emphasized.
So, in recent years, our country has repeatedly become the venue for important meetings and forums under the auspices of the CIS, which were distinguished by a high organizational level. This year, under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan, a number of important events were also held, including a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government, which were very effective.
Thanking for kind words, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that our country is always open for friends and partners. Being committed to the traditional dialogue in the format of the Commonwealth, neutral Turkmenistan seeks to do everything possible to strengthen the historically formed ties of friendship and good neighborliness that unite the peoples of the CIS member states. As the Chairman of the CIS this year, our country is responsibly approaching the fulfillment of this mission, advocating the intensification of multifaceted cooperation.
In the course of the meeting, the head of state and his guest exchanged views on priority issues of partnership within the Commonwealth, noting the availability of wide opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, including in relevant areas such as trade and economic sphere, transport and communications, energy, advanced technologies, business -contacts.
In this context, the agenda of the meeting of the CIS Economic Council, scheduled for September 13 in Ashgabat, was the subject of an interesting discussion.
As noted, the meeting will discuss the draft Declaration on Strategic Economic Cooperation of the Member States of the Commonwealth, initiated by the President of Turkmenistan. The adoption of this document at the level of heads of state in October this year will certainly contribute to the strengthening of traditional interstate ties and the development of a broad and effective partnership in the CIS format, the guest emphasized.
Along with this, it was noted that the humanitarian sphere has invariably been a reliable link in the CIS states and peoples. The XIV Forum of creative and scientific intelligentsia of the CIS, held in the Turkmen capital in May of this year, contributed to the deepening of mutually beneficial contacts in the fields of education, science and culture.
The meeting touched upon preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Ashgabat next month, as well as for the preceding meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers. According to the Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States, with the support of the Turkmen side, all relevant work in this area is carried out at a high level.
Having praised the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergey Lebedev thanked President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the excellent organization of all the events.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States expressed confidence that the realization of the diverse potential of interaction will serve to strengthen friendship and effective partnership between the CIS countries.
