President of Turkmenistan holds talks with chairman of CIS Executive Committee

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev, who arrived in Ashgabat to hold a meeting of the Commonwealth Economic Council.

During the meeting, the head of state and his guest discussed the priority issues of partnership within the CIS, noting the availability of wide opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the trade and economic sphere, in the transport and communications sector, energy, advanced technologies and in the field of business contacts. In this regard, the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the CIS Economic Council was the subject of interested discussion.

As noted, the meeting will discuss a draft declaration on strategic economic cooperation of the CIS member states initiated by Turkmenistan. The adoption of this document at the level of heads of state in October this year will certainly contribute to the strengthening of traditional interstate ties and the development of a broad effective partnership in the CIS format, Lebedev emphasized.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan, being the chairman of the CIS this year, is responsible for fulfilling this mission, advocating the intensification of multifaceted cooperation.
