Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran discussed gas swap supplies to Azerbaijan by phone

On December 13, a telephone conversation took place between the presidents of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Iranian Ebrahim Raisi , Mehr news reports .

The Iranian President expressed satisfaction with cooperation in the gas sector and work on swap gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iran.

Raisi also noted the importance of cooperation in the field of transportation and transit of goods between the two countries, saying that "through the efforts of the leaders of the two countries, measures have been taken to strengthen border relations, and due to cooperation between the two countries, some obstacles can be eliminated ." Which ones are not reported.

The President recalled that during his visit to Ashgabat, Iranian medical and paramedical goods were donated to Turkmenistan so that the two countries could improve cooperation in the field of science and medicine.

In turn, the President of Turkmenistan called the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries important, noting that "Iran occupies a special place in the development of medicine."

Berdymukhammedov also noted the importance of an agreement on swap supplies of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan through Iran and proposed creating a joint commission for cooperation in this area between the three countries, the newspaper writes.

The Turkmen side has not yet announced the telephone conversation.

On this day, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan signed a trilateral agreement on swap gas supplies. According to the document, from 1.2 to 2 billion cubic meters of gas will be supplied annually from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iran. The profit from the deal will allow Iran to supply gas to its five provinces. The contract has no end date, and gas supplies will begin on December 25, 2021.
