Prosecution Raids Ad Director Cha’s Office

The prosecution has raided the offices of Cha Eun-taek, a close associate of Choi Soon-sil who is suspected of peddling influence and interfering in state affairs.

A special investigation team probing the case said Tuesday that it raided three offices operated by the well-known advertisement director, including that of Africa Pictures, on Monday.

Cha is suspected of getting favors in winning government projects. He was named a member of the presidential culture promotion committee in 2014 and avidly promoting President Park Geun-hye's signature economic initiative known as the "creative economy."

Cha is also suspected of meddling in personnel matters. After he began working on government-related projects, his college professor Kim Jong-deok was appointed culture minister and his maternal uncle, a professor at Sookmyung Women's University, was named presidential education and culture secretary.

The prosecution raided Cha's home last Wednesday. Cha is believed to be staying overseas.
