Putin notes growing import of Russia from Turkmenistan during meeting with Berdymuhamedov

Russian President Vladimir Putin said import from Turkmenistan to Russia doubled last year and offered the Turkmen leader to discuss unresolved issues, reports RIA Novosti.

Despite economic difficulties, our bilateral trade is growing in the rouble equivalent, Putin said at the meeting with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov on November 1.

The trade in US dollar equivalent declined, he added. The export of Turkmenistan to Russia in 2015 doubled. However, we have many areas to work on. We have unresolved issues, Putin said.

The Russian leader congratulated Turkmenistan with the 25th anniversary of independence and reminded that the countries will celebrate 25 years of establishment of diplomatic ties next year.

President Berdymuhamedov in turn said Russia and Turkmenistan are bound with centuries-old friendly relations. We are a neutral country and grateful to you for supporting us twice and even being co-authors of neutrality of Turkmenistan, Berdymuhamedov stated.

Russia is a strategic partner of Turkmenistan, he added.
