Quotas for free electricity, gas and water to be abolished in Turkmenistan effective 2019

The state information agency TDH reports that starting from1 January 2019 provision of free electricity, gas, drinking water and table salt will be abolished in Turkmenistan effective 1 January 2019.

The relevant resolution was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.

According to the news outlet, the proposal to abolish the benefits had been put forward by participants of the Khalk Maslakhaty (the People's Council).

The decision was made with a view of further development of free market relations in Turkmenistan's economy. At his address to the Khalk Maslakhaty the head of the state had previously stated that in the meantime the residents' income have considerably increased and wide opportunities to earn a living have been created for each household.
