Radio Azatlyk website blocked in Russia

Roskomnadzor began to restrict access in Russia to the websites of the Central Asian services of Radio Liberty. This is reported by the publication "Mediazona. Central Asia" with reference to the data of the service "Roskomsvoboda".

The sites blocked were Azattyk (Kazakhstan), Ozodi (Tajikistan), and Azatlyk (Turkmenistan).

Reasons for blocking are not specified. According to the Roskomsvoboda registry, on January 28, 2022, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, a decision was made to restrict access to two publications on the Russian-language Azatlyk website related to the investigation of the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny “Palace for Putin”.

Blocking sites began on March 26. As of March 28, these resources are still available through the Beeline provider.

Earlier, on the basis of the requirement of the Prosecutor General’s Office “for spreading fakes about what is happening on the territory of Ukraine”, the website of the Russian service of Radio Liberty was blocked in Russia.

In addition to Svoboda, for covering the war in Ukraine, Roskomnadzor restricted access to independent news publications such as the BBC, Meduza, and Deutsche Welle.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, these publications “purposefully publish on a systematic basis information materials containing false information about the nature of the special military operation on the territory of Ukraine, its form, methods of conducting combat operations (attacks on civilians, strikes on civilian infrastructure), quantitative losses of the Armed Forces Forces of the Russian Federation and casualties among the civilian population.

The Dozhd TV channel and the Ekho Moskvy radio station were also closed.
