In Taldykorgan, protesters tried to demolish a monument to Nursultan Nazarbayev, who on January 5 was removed from his post as chairman of the Security Council by the current President of Kazakhstan.
Nazarbayev was removed from the post of chairman of the Security Council of Kazakhstan. Now the Security Council will be headed by the incumbent President Tokayev. After that, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a televised address and promised to act toughly against the protesters, whom he called conspirators. Tokayev also announced that from now on, he, and not the "father of the nation" Nursultan Nazarbayev, heads the Security Council of Kazakhstan.
The Internet is disconnected throughout the country, and in some cities - and landline telephone communications; at least eight TV channels disappeared from the air.
