Regional Office of Federation of Red Crescent Societies to be located in Bishkek

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov received the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent SocietiesJagan Chapagain, who is on a visit to Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the head of state reported.

The parties discussed priority issues of bilateral cooperation between the country and the Federation, the ongoing organization of project activities in the Kyrgyz Republic to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters, humanitarian assistance and social support.

The President stressed the importance of close cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the field of reducing damage from natural disasters and taking preventive measures to reduce the scale of emergencies. He expressed gratitude to the Federation for the assistance provided especially in the fight against COVID-19 and to the residents of Batken region, who suffered during the conflict with Tajikistan.

In turn, Jagan Chapagain noted the relevance of the climate agenda for the activities of the Federation in Kyrgyzstan, since the consequences of climate change are felt earlier and more acutely in high-mountainous states than in most other countries of the world. He also told Sadyr Japarov about the strategic decision made to locate the organization’s Regional Office for Central Asia in Bishkek.
