Remains of Soldier from First Karabakh War Laid to Rest in Sharur

Sharur: The body of Mukhtar Bayram oglu Mammadov, a martyr of the First Karabakh War who went missing 31 years ago, was buried in the city of Sharur. The remains were discovered recently, bringing closure to his family and community. The burial took place at the Martyrs' Alley, with a military honor ceremony marking the occasion.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the coffin, wrapped in the national tricolor flag, was brought to Nakhchivan International Airport where it was received by family members, relatives, and state representatives. A ceremonial gun salute was fired, and verses from the Holy Quran were recited in honor of Mammadov.

Mukhtar Mammadov was born on October 28, 1973, in the village of Damirchi in the Sadarak district. He volunteered to fight in the First Karabakh War and went missing on January 26, 1994, during battles near the village of Ashagi Abdurrahmanli in the Fuzuli district. After his remains were found, they were brought back to Nakhchivan for a farewell ceremony in his birthplace, Demirchi village.

The funeral was attended by Mammadov's relatives, officials from the Sharur and Sadarak District Executive Authorities, law enforcement employees, and members of the public. The State Flag draped over the coffin was presented to his brother following the volley of gunfire, marking the community's respect and recognition of his sacrifice.
