Representation of TASS news agency opened in Turkmenistan

As part of the expansion of the Russian media presence in the countries of the near abroad, a representative office of the TASS news agency was opened in Turkmenistan. This was stated at a briefing by Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Ivan Nechaev.

“A correspondent sent from Moscow started working in Ashgabat. It is gratifying that this event took place in the year of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan,” he said.

Cooperation between the two countries, according to Nechaev, is based on the principles of strategic partnership, characterized by equality and mutual respect.

“We expect that the opening of a TASS representative office in Turkmenistan will contribute to greater awareness of Russian, Turkmen, as well as foreign readers about the political, economic, cultural, scientific, sports life of the country, about the interaction of our countries in the international arena. We are sure that such development of cooperation in the information field will serve the cause of strengthening and expanding the traditionally strong and multifaceted ties between our states and peoples,” concluded Nechaev.

The interests of the leading state news agency of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan will be represented by its own correspondent Oleg Pavlenko, who previously worked in the regional offices of TASS in Kazan and St. Petersburg.
