Rosprirodnadzor suspected a vessel from Turkmenistan of polluting the Volga River in Astrakhan

On December 26, an iridescent oily film of 150 square meters was discovered on the Volga River in Astrakhan, the Notebook-Astrakhan information website reported .

Eight people and one piece of special equipment from among the employees of the marine rescue service were involved in the elimination of pollution.

A later publication noted that the source of the pollution was probably a vessel from Turkmenistan called "Magtymguly" (TURKMENBASHY JVO 8863006).

An investigation carried out by Russian specialists showed that the oily slicks are believed to be oil products from a Turkmen vessel, which is located in the waters of the central cargo port of Astrakhan.

It turned out that the extent of pollution along the embankment of the Volga River from this vessel was more than two kilometers, and the total area of pollution was not 150, but 1632 square meters.

“Currently, on the fact of pollution of the water body, Rosprirodnadzor has initiated an administrative investigation to clarify all the circumstances of the case, and based on the results of laboratory tests, the amount of damage caused to the river will be calculated,” the newspaper writes.
