Russia asks Turkmenistan to improve business climate and conduct mutual settlements in national currencies

Russia and Turkmenistan need to work on creating conditions for the transition to settlements in national currencies. This statement was made at the Russian-Turkmen business forum by the president of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sergey Katyrin , TASS reports . The event, in which a delegation from Russia takes part , takes place on January 19-20 in Ashgabat.

“As far as business is concerned, in the present conditions the solution of the following pressing problems is most critical. First, it is necessary to work on improving cooperation in the financial sector: we are talking here not only about solving current problems in mutual settlements, but also creating appropriate conditions for the transition to national currencies in settlements .

Secondly, it is necessary to consistently work on improving the business climate - this concerns, first of all, the elimination of administrative and customs barriers . In this regard, we consider it expedient to consider the issue of creating a so-called green corridor for mutual deliveries of Russian and Turkmen products,” the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.

According to Katyrin, there are good prospects for further increasing supplies of Turkmen textile and agricultural products to Russia, and on the other hand, supplies of machinery and equipment for their production to Turkmenistan.

“In addition to these traditional areas of trade, there is an interest in the development of new ones, in particular in the field of high technologies, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure development, where our companies also have something to offer,” he specified.

Recall that in 2020, members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation complained about the double exchange rate in Turkmenistan.

“Products manufactured by Turkmen manufacturers are traded on the stock exchange at prices much higher than similar products manufactured by enterprises of neighboring Central Asian republics. This is due to the difference in rates - there is an official rate and there is a real rate , so to speak, the difference between them is four times, ”said one of the Russian entrepreneurs.

In addition, members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation commented on the restrictions on conversion for Turkmen entrepreneurs who cannot pay for purchases on time.

These problems persist in Turkmenistan to this day.

Further, the General Director of RZD International, Sergey Stolyarov , said that the company is taking part in the reconstruction project of the 19th century car repair plant built in the city of Gyzylarbat in Turkmenistan.

“Together with our Turkmen partners, we are engaged in a project for the reconstruction of a railcar repair plant in Gyzylarbat. It was built in 1881, when the railway industry in Turkmenistan was still in its infancy. We are confident that the joint implementation of this project will make it possible to obtain a modern enterprise that will provide maintenance of the wagon fleet not only for the network of Turkmenistan, but also for neighboring countries,” he said.
