On June 3, a bike ride was held in Ashgabat in honor of the International Bicycle Day, in which President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part, the state information agency TDH reports .
The action started from the monument to the bicycle, at which the vice-premiers, leaders of the Halk Maslakhaty and the Mejlis and foreign diplomats were waiting for the head of state. There was also a concert.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov led the convoy, which drove along Chandybil and Bitarap Turkmenistan avenues. Singers and musicians also performed along the route.
“During the cyclocross, the President of Turkmenistan demonstrated excellent physical and sports fitness, confirming the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by personal example,” notes the TDH, which described President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in exactly the same words .
The publication also notes that “when riding a bicycle, a person’s gaze focuses on objects located at different distances, thereby strengthening the eye muscles.”
During the bike ride, the head of state asked Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov , who is in charge of the construction, industrial and energy complex , how he fulfills instructions for decorating road infrastructure facilities: crossings and territories adjacent to road junctions.
The bike ride near the Rukhyet Palace has ended.
Sports actions on the occasion of the World Bicycle Day were also held in all velayats of the country.
As Chronicle of Turkmenistan reported the day before, the authorities traditionally blocked the central streets for the bike ride, which disrupted public transport. Bus drivers weren't told in advance which streets they were allowed to travel on, so they built routes based on where they could go.
