On May 10, a meeting of the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat, at which the head of state Serdar Berdimuhamedov was unanimously elected president of the organization . This was reported by the state news agency TDH .
In this post, Serdar Berdimuhamedov replaced the ex-president of the country, current chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty , Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov , who has headed the NOC since 2007.
The National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan was founded in 1990 and registered with the International Olympic Committee in 1993.
The publication recalls that on April 28, the Organizing Committee was established to prepare the national teams of Turkmenistan for the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games and the XVII Summer Paralympic Games, which will be held in Paris (France) in 2024.
Athletes are now undergoing training camps in the Olympic Village and the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.
Recall that Serdar Berdimuhamedov is also an honored coach of Turkmenistan. The title was awarded in 2017 “for increasing the international prestige of Turkmenistan as a sports power and personal contribution to the training of athletes who won prizes in the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.”
