On 17 Decembers the shopping centre Yimpas was closed down in Ashgabat.
The shop windows are empty and there are no cars, people or advertising banners around the shopping mall.
The remaining equipment and furniture is being removed with loaders from the rear of the shopping centre. Several days prior the closing Yimpas sold its office equipment at half price. Now the staff are moving out the remaining items including counters and shelves etc.
The further fate of Yimpas remains unclear. According to Radio Azatlyk, the building is scheduled to be knocked down and replaced with a car park. According to other sources, the shopping centre will be reopened after the refurbishment but it will allegedly be owned by a person who has connections among higher-ranking authorities.
