Issues of implementation of the North-South International Transport Corridor (ITC) development project were discussed at the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Andrey Belousov. The meeting took place on the margins of the XIV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World" in Kazan. "The meeting stressed the need to synchronize measures to eliminate bottlenecks in the railway infrastructure, highways, including bypasses of Makhachkala, Derbent, Khasavyurt, at checkpoints and transport and logistics centres," the Russian government said in a statement. Besides, Mustafayev and Belousov discussed the creation of a single operator of railway infrastructure of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran. This week, Russia and Iran signed an agreement on completion of the construction of Resht-Astara railway in Iran. Implementation of the project will launch an uninterrupted railway corridor from the Persian Gulf to St. Petersburg.
