Today, SOCAR and BP held a joint event to announce a new collaborative initiative aimed at reducing methane levels in Azerbaijan's oil and gas sector, BP told APA-Economics. Noted that these two companies, which have signed the global Methane Guiding Principles (MGP), will share their experience in the field of methane to teach and learn from others, share experiences, and work together to advance efforts to reduce methane emissions in Azerbaijan. and will collaborate closely by bringing together their knowledge. Two weeks earlier, on November 30, 2023, the MGP announced its new Global Methane Emissions Reduction initiative to accelerate the reduction of methane emissions at the country level. Working together under this initiative, SOCAR and BP will bring together key stakeholders, partners, research institutes, and government leadership to support efforts to develop a specific roadmap that meets the requirements of the energy sector in Azerbaijan. A memorandum of understanding between SOCAR and BP was a lso signed at the event. Under this document, companies will work together to develop knowledge and skills in reducing methane levels, emissions measurement, accountability, verification, technologies, and technical expertise.
