Space Cooperation Accord with US Takes Effect

It's official: South Korea and the United States are now formally cooperating on space research.

The Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning say a major agreement signed between the two nations in April is now in effect.

Its full title is the "Framework Agreement for Cooperation in Aeronautics and the Exploration and Use of Airspace and Outer Space for Civil and Peaceful Purposes."

The agreement covers measures for broad private sector cooperation in areas such as space science, earth observation and outer space exploration.

South Korea is the first Asian country to sign the agreement with Washington.
