At a cabinet meeting on January 7, Deputy Prime Minister Esenmyrat Orazgeldiev , who oversees the agro- industrial complex, told President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov about the development of the State Plant Protection Program for 2022–2025, the TDH state news agency reported .

To combat plant diseases, weeds, locusts and other pests, it is planned to use improved agrotechnical, chemical and biological methods (it is not specified which ones), test and register plant protection products, as well as conduct training seminars and exchange experience with foreign specialists and organizations.

Berdimuhamedov noted that the program is relevant in connection with the ongoing modernization of the agro-industrial complex, but instructed to re-analyze the document and coordinate it with the relevant structures.

Turkmen state media do not report problems with pests in the fields, but earlier the heads of agricultural associations and tenants told the Chronicle of Turkmenistan correspondents about frequent problems with locusts. In particular, the invasion of pests was noted in the countries of Central Asia in the summer of 2020.
