BAKU: The number of individuals in Azerbaijan willing to donate their organs posthumously has seen a significant increase, tripling compared to previous years, as reported by the nation’s Health Ministry. This rise accompanies over 300 organ transplant surgeries conducted in 2024, with kidney and liver transplants being the most common.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Yegana Abbasova, Chairperson of the Coordinating Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation at the Ministry of Health, disclosed the data in response to an inquiry. Abbasova highlighted the substantial growth in the number of people registering to donate their organs after death at the Coordinating Center, attributing the increase to heightened awareness and support for organ donation.
Abbasova also mentioned future plans to facilitate the registration process for voluntary donors, allowing them to apply through the mygov.az platform, expected to further streamline and encourage organ donation in the country.
