Taliban show Turkmen border guard’s belt thrown during shootout

On January 3, Afghan media reported a shootout between Turkmen border guards and Taliban forces in the Hamyab region of Jowzjan province, near the border with Turkmenistan.

At that time, the head of the Taliban's culture and information center in Jowzjan said that the Afghan side had opened fire in response to an attack by Turkmen border guards.

On January 4, the Turkmen embassy in Kabul called this information unreliable. These messages denied a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdul Kahar Balkhi ( of Abdul Qahar Balkhi ).

One of the Taliban said in Turkmen that soldiers from Turkmenistan crossed the border to rob the residents of a local village, but, noticing armed Taliban fighters, they fled, leaving their belongings behind. The man warned that such attacks will continue to be suppressed.
