On August 9, a representative office of the TASS news agency opened in Turkmenistan. A correspondent sent to the republic from Moscow started working in Ashgabat. Ivan Nechaev , Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry , announced this at a briefing on August 12 .
This was done "as part of the expansion of the Russian media presence in neighboring countries."
“We expect that the opening of a TASS representative office in Turkmenistan will contribute to greater awareness of Russian, Turkmen, as well as foreign readers about the political, economic, cultural, scientific, sports life of our friendly country, about the interaction of our states in the international arena,” Nechaev said.
The diplomat added that "such development of cooperation in the information field will serve the cause of strengthening and expanding the traditionally strong and multifaceted ties between our states and peoples."
Recall that in December 2020, the Russian news agency TASS and the state news agency of Turkmenistan TDH signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of exchange of news materials.
In October 2021, TASS published a laudatory interview that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave to the first deputy general director of the news agency , Mikhail Gusman .
