Tennis Players from Turkmenistan Win Women’s Team Bronze at 4th Islamic Solidarity Games

Turkmenistan national team claimed bronze medals in women's team tennis at 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku.

Winners and runner-ups in this category were defined based on athletes' results in two single and one double match. On their journey to victory at the courts of Baku Tennis Academy, our players, Jahan Bayramova, Anastasia Prenko and Guljahan Muhammetgulyyeva, outplayed the hosts of the Games, the Azerbaijan team, and the Pakistan national team. The medal ceremony will take place on 15 May.

Men's tennis team from Turkmenistan also managed to reach quarterfinals. Now our players, including, girls, are to compete for medals in two more tournaments � singles and doubles.

Turkmen boxers also started off well at Islamic Games. Horsan Imamkuliyev (60 kg) has already secured a spot at the pedestal. He reached the semi-finals after a confident win over Mohammad Abu Jajeh of Jordan, and this will bring him at least a bronze.

One more athlete of Turkmenistan's national team, international master of sports, bronze winner of the first ever 2010Junior Olympic Games in Singapore; participant of the 2012 London Olympiad, Nursahet Pazzyyev (75 kg), knocked out of the competition the Kyrgyz athlete, Azamat Kanybek Uulu, and secured a place in quarterfinals. On 16 May he will fight Youness Garroumi from Morocco to secure a place in the medal chart.

Recently the National boxing team of Turkmenistan has been training under the guidance of Russia's merited coach, Alexander Lebzyak, who was invited to Ashgabat to prepare our boxers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan).

In weightlifting, Yulduz Jumabayeva was stopped just a step away from the medal and finished fourth in 48 kg category. The student of Turkmenistan's merited coach and general manager of women's national team, Ahmed Saryyev, gained the total of 163 kg in the combined (71 kg in Snatch and 92 kg in Clean and Jerk), that stripped her of bronze that was won by Gamze Karakol of Turkey who outweighed her by 1 kg, having lifted the total of 164 kg.

Weightlifter Bagul Berdiyeva made it to the Top-7 of the tournament's best athletes in 53 kg. Her result in the combined equaled to 150 kg (65 kg in Snatch and 85 kg in Clean and Jerk).

Diyar Hojayev entered the Top-5 best karate-do athletes in 67 kg. Diyar is a world record holder in The Fastest Victory nomination: at the 2015 Russian Fudokan-karate Open Cup where he earned victory at the 7th second.

After performance at the Islamic Games, D.Hojayev and Zohrejan Jumabayeva will prepare for the 9th Traditional Karate World Cup to be held from 31 May to 4 June in the city of Lodz, Poland.

Our volleyball team, after a 3:0 technical win over the Palestine national team, is ranking third in Group A, where the Azerbaijan team is at the top with 6 points; Turkey is second with 5 points; and Pakistan is ranking fourth with 0 points.

The Turkmen athletes still have good chances, as there are two more rounds of games ahead. The hardest match is scheduled for 17 May at Crystal Hall courts, where our athletes will come face to face with the hosts of the Games, the Azerbaijan national team; and on 19 May they will play the Pakistan national team.
